Let's work together

Company

The Galway Whiskey Trail is a collaboration of Galway City Whiskey Bars and unique Retailers who possess a rich Whiskey heritage and a menu of rare and exclusive whiskey brands. A self-guided whiskey trail, it is centered on Galway city’s rich whiskey distilling history which dates back over 100 years to Persse’s Whiskey Distillery in Nun’s Island on the River Corrib, Galway. The inspiration for the trail, Persse Galway Whiskey was marketed internationally, with the slogan ‘favourite in the House of Commons’.

Campaign Summary

A launch event featuring the powerful artistic genius of Macnas Theatre Performance Company and many of Galway’s renowned arts and culture personalities was held in the Arts Centre in Nuns Island close to the location of the original Persse’s distillery.

Galway’s Pádraic Breathnach and leading historian, Tomás Kenny delivered rousing orations on Persse’s Galway Whiskey Distillery and its heritage.  While two Middleton Master distillers, Brian Nation and Barry Crockett shared their insights with a Middleton whiskey tasting for invited guests.

Macnas, then led invited media and guests on a magical whiskey trail through the medieval streets of Galway before finishing with an exciting, live Macnas spectacle at Fisherman’s Square at the Spanish Arch in Galway city. This was the traditional trading point for Persse’s Galway Whiskey before it was transported by boat to  the House of Commons, London over 100 years ago.

Joining Macnas in the highly visual spectacle was a fleet of traditional Galway Hooker Boats at the Claddagh Basin when amidst a fireworks display, casks of whiskey were theatrically traded on Galway Bay.

National and Galway Media enjoyed the spectacle and delivered extensive press coverage across digital, print and broadcast platforms. This event went onto inspire the launch of the Galway Bay Irish Whiskey in 2016.
